PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thermal transfer type recorder wherein bi-directional recording and line recording can be executed by thermal transfer recording and an ink holding medium corresponding to a conventional ink ribbon can be repeatedly used so that improvement of a yield of ink and reduction of dust can be achieved and high speed recording, high resolution recording and large amount recording can be performed. SOLUTION: This recorder comprises a recording means 1 for performing recording by sublimating or vaporizing sublimable ink or vaporizable ink in accordance with a second recording signal, an ink supplying means 2 for supplying the ink in accordance with a first recording signal corresponding to the second recording signal, an ink conveying means 3 for holding and conveying the supplied ink to a position for recording, a recording medium conveying means 3 and ink removing means 7, 8 for removing the ink that remains on the ink conveying means after performing the recording in accordance with the second recording signal.
