PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To fill a fluorescent paste by a prescribed quantity in grooves surrounded by ribs even in case of a substrate having any shape of the lib at the time of applying the fluorescent paste between the lib of the substrate by an electric field jet method. SOLUTION: In the paste applying method in which a coating heat having plural discharge holes in a direction perpendicular to the coating direction is used and the fluorescent paste is filled between the ribs 12 and 13 of the substrate while moving the coating head relatively to be opposed to the substrate G, the fluorescent paste is applied whole controlling the discharge quantity from the coating head by attaching an electrode to the coating head, impressing pulse voltage between the coating head and the substrate G to cause the electric filed, discharging the fluorescent paste and turning the pulse voltage impressed to the electrodes continuously on/off. A proper florescent layer is formed between the complicated shaped ribs to improve the light emitting efficiency of PDP.
