PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a catalyst for cleaning exhaust gas, exhibiting excellent durability even in the case that it is exposed directly in an oxygen excess atmosphere at a high temperature, and exhibiting satisfactory oxidation performance in the operation of an engine at a theoretical air fuel ratio. SOLUTION: This catalyst for cleaning exhaust gas contains Ir powder. This Ir powder has a bimodal particle size distribution where one peak exists in a region of >25 nm particle size D and the other peak exists in a region of <25 nm particle size D.
