PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a highly sensitive silver halide photographic emulsion of good preservability, and to provide a silver halide photographic photosensitive material comprising the above emulsion. SOLUTION: This silver halide photographic emulsion contains a methine compound of general formula (I) [wherein, X1 and X2 are each O, S, Se or N-R3 (R3 is H, a (substituted) alkyl or (substituted) aryl); V1 and V2 are each a univalent substituent; n1 and n2 are each an integer of 0-4; L1, L2 and L3 are each a methine group; l is an integer of 0-3; M is a charge-balanced counterion; m is a number necessary for balancing electric charges; R1 and R2 are each a (substituted) alkyl, aryl or heterocyclic group, provided that at least one of R1 and R2 is an alkyl group having an dissociable group]. The other objective silver halide photographic photosensitive material comprises the above emulsion.
