PURPOSE:To surely prevent occurrence of a fire caused by sparks generated during deburring of the outer surface of a steel material under grinding by a belt grinder pressed thereagainst with the use of machining oil jetted thereonto, by providing baffling plates on horizontally opposite sides of a contact roll. CONSTITUTION:A device using a belt grinder, for grinding a steel material, hold-down rolls 5a, 5b for pressing down a steel strip S; and a back-up roll for pressing up the steel strip between the hold-down rolls 5a, 5b. Further, a contact roll 1 is made into contact with the steel strip S at a top of the pressed-up part thereof through the intermediary of a grinding belt 3 for grinding the outer surface of the steel strip so as to deburr the latter. In this case, baffling plates 8 are provided on horizontally opposite sides of the contact roll 1. Each of the baffling plates 8 is provided at the upper end part thereof with a spray nozzle 14 for jetting machining oil onto the grinding belt 3 and a spray nozzle for flashing chips sticking to the inner surface of the baffling plate 8 in order to prevent occurrence of a fire caused by sparks. |
