PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a picture file device capable of reproducing a picture by a digital camera on the market or printing the picture by the peripheral equipment, for example, a printer for the digital camera, and easily managing the picture, and easily titling the pictures of even plural subjects whose shapes are similar. SOLUTION: A picture file device 1 is provided with a PC card 19 as a recording means for recording a still picture and a still picture recording control part 54 for generating a picture file having a first area in which the data of the still picture are stored and a second area in which the first character data such as a picture title are stored so as to be related with the still picture data. Also, this picture file device 1 is provided with a directory title recording control part 65 for generating a character data file in which the second character data such as a directory title are stored so as to be related with the picture file. Then, the picture file and the character data file are outputted to the PC card 19.
