PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a congestion state deciding method and device therefor capable of deciding congestion state based on states of the entire parking lot without paying attention to individual parked vehicles and by which a decision result closer to the one by a human is obtained. SOLUTION: A photographed image of an object area where the congestion is to be decided which is photographed from high angle by a camera 1 is stored in an image memory 2 as a digital image, the digital image of the photographed object area is converted into an edge image by an edge image converting part 4, after that a gradation processing is performed to the image by an image gradation processing part 5, correlation values among the digital image, the edge image or the gradation processed image of the object area and each of prepared template images T1, T2 to Tn to indicate the congestion state such as empty, crowded and full are calculated by matching them and the congestion state of the template image corresponding to the largest correlation value is decided as the congestion state of the object area by comparing the calculated correlation values in a congestion state deciding part 9. |
