PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize a soft magnetic material which is high in saturation magnetic flux density and electrical resistivity and furthermore kept high in soft magnetic properties and frequency characteristics after being formed into a film at a low temperature or subjected to a thermal treatment carried out at a temperature lower than 300 deg.C and a magnetic head formed of the same. SOLUTION: A soft magnetic material is represented by a composition formula FexAlyOz, where x, y, and z are indicated in at.% and set so as to satisfy relations, x+y+z=100, 72<=x<=97, and y/z>=0.5, and moreover the magnetic material is so formed as to have a uniaxial magnetic anisotropy, when it is formed into a film.
