PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical device in which the light can be efficiently taken out and which has a high luminous efficiency. SOLUTION: In the optical device including the first transparent electrode installed on an transparent substrate, the second electrode installed opposing to the first electrode, and a luminous layer which is installed between the first electrode and the second electrode, which emits light by the application of a voltage, the transparent substrate is used in which the refractive index increases toward the direction which light spreads.
