PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical module which is simple in structure and can be reduced in size and has a good productivity. SOLUTION: An end face of a ferrule 31 having an optical fiber 35 passed through the center is formed into a slant face 33. A photodetector 34 is installed on the slant face of the ferrule so that it can be optically coupled with the optical fiber directly. A side face of the ferrule 31 is supported and fixed to a module substrate 8. The ferrule 31 is covered with synthetic resin with the leading edge being in a salient state.
