PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an imaging apparatus and an image change detecting method that can realize reduction of cost by not using an infrared ray sensor and an exclusive processor for detecting an image change. SOLUTION: The imaging apparatus is provided with an automatic control information output section 5 that receives image information and outputs automatic control information, an automatic control information comparison section 6 that calculates an information change that is a change amount of automatic control information according to a reference value, and an image change level discrimination section 8 that compares the information change amount with a plurality of preset threshold values to discriminate a level corresponding to the information change amount.
