PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rotating electric machine capable of avoiding scattering of sparks when the brush slidingly contact the commutator, whereby lengthening the life of the brush and also eliminating damage to a battery when the rotating electric machine functions as a generator. SOLUTION: The rotating machine 10 is constituted by mounting a first and second sub-brushes 34a, 34b respectively and electrically connected to a first and second diodes 32a, 32b to a second rotating part 16. When the rotating part 16 rotates integrally together with a rotating shaft 12, and when a first to third positive brushes 28a to 28c and a first to third negative brushes 30a to 30c slidingly contact the commutator 38, commutation is conducted by the first and second diodes 32a, 32b and the first and second sub-brushes 34a, 34b. Also, when the second rotating part 16 is descended by a lifting mechanism 36 and each of the brushes is separated from the commutator 38, the first and second diodes 32a, 32b are electrically disconnected from the battery B.
