PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image-processing system, which automatically selects which of the scanner side or the PC side the specific image processing is to be performed, without complicated operations to automatically conduct the selected processing. SOLUTION: When it discriminates (S11) power-on, the scanner discriminate (S12) whether composition processing can be performed in the PC. When discriminating that it can be performed in the PC, the scanner sets a composition flag to '1', in order to perform composition processing in the PC (S13 and S14). When it discriminates that it can be performed in the scanner, the scanner sets (S15 and S16) the composition flag to '0', in order to perform the composition processing in the scanner. The scanner adds tag information indicating contents of a designated composition mode to read image data, when accepting designation of composition processing from a user. The scanner refers to the composition flag to send image data, to which tag information is added, to an image composition part arranged in the device in which composition processing is to conducted. The image composition part recognizes tag information and performs composition processing of image data, on the basis of the contents of the tag.
