PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize word recognition with high precision even when the number of characters of words is not constant. SOLUTION: At the time of realizing word recognition by using the result of character recognition, the recognition processing of an input character string corresponding to a word to be recognized is performed character by character, and the probability of the appearance of features obtained as the result of the character recognition by using each character of each word in a word dictionary in which the candidates of words to be recognized are preliminarily stored is calculated, and the calculated probability is divided by the probability of the appearance of features obtained as the result of the character recognition, and each divided result calculated for each character of each word in the word dictionary is multiplied for all the characters, and the recognition result of the word is obtained on the basis of the multiplication result.
