PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an operating method for electronic equipment, that enables a user to automate the processing of various setting operations by only selecting a displayed menu and performing transmission and reception by connecting a portable telephone set to the electronic equipment. SOLUTION: A portable telephone set 2 is connected to a car navigator 1 installed on the user side, and an inquiry about operation is e-mailed to a center 11 via a communication network 10. Then an operation command, corresponding to the inquiry, is attached to electronic mail and sent to the user side from the side of the center 11, and once the electronic mail is received from the center 10, the setting operation of the car navigator 1 is carried out automatically by the operation command.
