PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform image compositing with higher reality, in the case of compositing an image seen from the viewpoint of an observer, on the basis of three-dimensional object data modeled with luminance information of a block unit. SOLUTION: When a three-dimensional object is modeled with data, which include the luminance information and an arbitrary viewpoint image is further synthesized from models obtained by performing VQ encoding of the luminance information in a block unit, a viewpoint position/line-of-sight direction input process 101 inputs a viewpoint position/line-of-sight direction, and a viewpoint state decision process 102 decides whether the viewpoint position of the observer is stationary or moving. When the viewpoint state is stationary, a high-resolution image compositing process 103 combines images. When a viewpoint image is moving, a low-resolution image compositing process 104 combines images at high speed, and an image display process 105 outputs a composite image to a display device, such as a display. |
