PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a compact current cut-off element which does not hamper the thinness of a battery, which can surely break electric current passage between an external body, one of the electrodes of a battery, and an outer lead, with a narrow side fallen inside in a concave form when a broad side gets expanded with rise of inner pressure of a battery, by forming a current cut-off element in a body separate from the external body of the battery, and fitting in on the narrower side of the external body. SOLUTION: An external body 2 of the battery 1 consists of a pair of first side faces 3 arranged facing each other expansible with the rise of an inner pressure of the battery and a second side face 4, with smaller surface area than, and adjacent to, the first side face 3, caves in to form a concave shape in accordance with expansion of the first side face 3. On the second side face 4 is fitted a holding member 5, to which a conductive connection member 6 is fixed, and between the conductive connection member 6 and the second side face 4 is formed an electric passage, which is broken, since the second side face gets caved in a concave shape when the inner pressure of the battery 1 rises and the first side face get expanded.
