PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a discharge lamp lighting device enabled to flow a big preheating current and to make the preheating current small at lighting and to reduce size and cost. SOLUTION: The discharge lamp lighting device comprises an inverter 23 which outputs alternating voltage corresponding to the input direct current, an output transformer 30, to a primary winding 31 of which, alternating voltage is impressed, and a discharge lamp 35 connected to a secondary winding 32 of the output transformer 30, and impresses a prescribed voltage to the inverter 23 while the discharge lamp 35 is lighting. Preheating windings 33, 34 making preheating current flow through filaments 40, 41 of the discharge lamp 35, are installed in the output transformer 30. An input voltage higher than the prescribed voltage is impressed to the inverter 23 at precedent preheating period and the input voltage is lowered to the prescribed voltage with the passage of time. |
