PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a high frequency signal amplifier and a portable telephone set which switch can power consumption under simple control from an external circuit. SOLUTION: A switch 17 is turned on and off by the external circuit. When the switch 17 is turned off (control terminal Ict is opened), a bias voltage impressed to the gate of a transistor Q2 becomes lower one on two stages. As a result, the bias current of the drain of the transistor Q2 is reduced and the bias current of the drain of the transistor Q2 is reduced as well. When the switch 17 is turned on (control terminal Ict is grounded), a resistor R5 is parallel connected with a resistor R4 and the bias voltage impressed to the gate of the transistor Q2 becomes higher one on two stages.
