PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a projection type cathode-ray tube excellent in optical properties and durability by improving cooling effect, and enabling efficient manufacturing at low cost. SOLUTION: A thickness of a panel 11 of a cathode-ray tube body 10 is uniformly formed excluding a periphery edge part 11d which is an adhering surface to a coupler (cooling liquid holding body) 21. A cooling effect by a cooling mechanism 20 on the panel 11 is uniform on the entire surface. Therefore, optical properties and durability of the panel 11 are improved. In a manufacturing process of heating the panel 11, a temperature difference is not generated if a cooling temperature of the panel 11 is decreased and cooling time is reduced, thereby uniform cooling can be achieved. Because a part of the panel 11 excluding the periphery edge part 11d forms a recessed curved surface part 11e, to improve adhesion, only the periphery edge part 11d, which is adhered to the edge of an opening 21a on the back side of the coupler 21, is to be polished, thereby a polishing time can be made short.
