Fluorescent markers for DNA and their precursors, useful in gene therapy and genetic research to show the amount of a gene introduced and its intracellular locality

Precursors of fluorescent markers for a DNA comprising the residue of a fluorescent material from which a hydrogen atom has been removed, a linking group attaching it to an alkylamino group, a 1-16C straight or branched alkyl group, and a phenylamino group in which the amino group is para to the alkyl group, is new. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) fluorescent markers from these precursors, in which the phenylamino group has been converted to a phenyldiazonium group; (2) plasmids; and (3) DNA marked with these markers.
