PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make various states of a portable telephone during speech informable to the user of the telephone. SOLUTION: During speech, the number of error bits is outputted from a channel decoder 18 and, when the number of error bits per unit time exceeds a prescribed threshold, a speech synthesizer 36 synthesizes a message reporting the deterioration of the communication quality and supplies the message to an amplifier 21. The voltage of a battery 44 is monitored and, when the voltage become equal to or lower than prescribed, the synthesizer 36 synthesizes a message reporting it and supplies the message to the amplifier 21. In addition, when another incoming call arrives during speech under catch-phone service, the information on the caller is extracted and, when the telephone number of the caller is registered on a telephone directory stored in an EEPROM 38, the synthesizer 36 synthesizes the name of the caller registered correlatively with the number and supplies the name to the amplifier 21. The amplifier 21 supplies the voice signal supplied from the synthesizer 36 to a loudspeaker 22 by superposing the voice signal upon speech voice signals. |
