PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a positive electrode material for an alkaline battery which hardly lose function as a positive electrode even when the battery is under a continuous reverse polarity condition, restraining, at the same time, amount of use of cobalt compounds which are rare in yield and expensive in cost. SOLUTION: By including 1% or more in atomic ratio to nickel of one or more of atomic elements selected from Mg, Al, Ca, Mn, Cu, Zn, Y, and Sn, and at that, by having same in higher density on the surface 2 of the positive electrode material particles 3 than in the inside 1, reaction reversibility of the surface of nickel hydroxide active material particles is curtailed to keep conductivity through maintenance of high-degree of oxidation state of the surface. |
