PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an expression word map preparing method advantageous for saving the labor and time and suitable for preparing an expression word map to be used for performing the image retrieval of a retrieval target. SOLUTION: Respective hairstyle image data jpq01-jpq09 are stored while being made to correspond to expression words expressing the images thereof. Next, several representative hairstyle image data are selected out of the plural hairstyle image data jpq01-jpq09 and the selected representative hairstyle image data are located on a virtual space 50. Then, an expression word map 50 is prepared by locating the expression word corresponding to the representative hairstyle image data on a coordinate, where these representative hairstyle image data are located, on the virtual space 50. At that time, when the same expression word is located on different plural coordinates on the virtual space 50, the coordinate of that expression word is defined as the average coordinate of these coordinates.
