PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device and a method for conducting screen display in which the amount of transfer of image data is reduced, switching time from a start screen to an end screen is reduced and the work load of a CPU is not increased and to provide an information recording medium. SOLUTION: When a switching is made from a start screen to an end screen on an image display device, a combined screen obtained by combining a portion of the start screen and a portion of the end screen is inserted between the start and the end screens and the display screen is gradually switched. The image display device has a pixel selecting means 13 which receives the data of the start and the end screens and mask information which is provided to obtain a combined screen and selects pixels for a combined screen to obtain a combined screen.
