PROCESSES FOR THE PREPARATION OF MACROCYCLIC KETONES

A process of condensing a dialkyl ester of a long-chain dicarboxylic acid having 18 to 21 carbon atoms intramolecularly in the presence of either titanium tetrachloride or zirconium tetrachloride and a trialkylamine to form an alpha -alkoxycarbonylated macrocyclic ketone; and a process of hydrolyzing an alpha -alkoxycarbonylated macrocyclic ketone obtained by the above process and then subjecting the resulting hydrolyzate to decarboxylation to form a macrocyclic ketone. These processes permit efficient preparation of macrocyclic ketones through high-concentration synthesis.
