An active optical fibre (20) having: a silica glass cladding (4), and a glass core (2), doped with a rare earth, comprising a quantity of SiO2 of at least 50 % in weight, and a quantity of an oxide XO not exceeding 40 % in weight, wherein the element X is selected from the group comprising Ca, Sr, Ba and Zn.
