The invention relates to a hydrophobin-like protein capable of self-assembly at a hydrophobic-hydrophilic interface. The protein according to the present invention belongs to a new class of protein and is an at least partially purified protein comprising a polypeptide having at least 40 % identity and at least 5 % similarity with at least one polypeptide chosen from the group consisting of i) amino acids 29 - 131 of SEQ NO. 1 and ii) amino acids 29 - 133 of SEQ.
