PROCEDURE FOR DOWNLOADING CELL INFORMATION TO MOBILES IN IDLE MODE

In a telecommunications network wherein a location area (LA1) contains GSM cells (26) having adjacent or neighboring UTMS cells (20), a dedicated procedure is employed to download information about a UTMS cell (20) to a mobile station (16). After entering the location area, the mobile (16) is notified of the presence of the UTMS cell (20). In response to the notice, the mobile (10) is operated to acquire specified information about the UTMS cell (20) from the network, such as frequency and scrambling code combinations, radio access bearer configuration, and information pertaining to intersystem cell selection.
