A process which utilizes actual received signal level data gathered from closely spaced locations covering an entire cellular system to calculate interference level s at each location. The process determines those base stations which most probably communicate with a mobile unit at each particular location, compiles a list of neighbor base stations for each base station at each location throughout the system and calculates interference levels at each ba se station for a variety of channel assignment to each base station. The process allocates channels t o various cells on an adaptive basis to minimize interference and maintain call quality. Minimizin g interference requires a cost evaluation of all resulting interference from implementation of a particular channel allocation. Data which indicates the actual strengths of all signals to be transmitted by a plurality of cells each positioned at an individual physical position in a mobile communications system and to be received by a mobile unit at a plurality of points of an entire mobile communications system is collected and utilized to establish a relational da ta matrix. The system relating data indicating the actual strengths of all signals to the physical positions from which the signals are to be transmitted, identifying cells transmitting signals likely to serve each point of the plurality of points, and comparing planned frequencies to be used at any position serving a point with planned frequencies to be used at other positions to identify cells transmitting signals which might interfere with signals transmitted by cells serving a point and to identify least likely interference patters for channel reuse.
|
