Preparing transgenic, monocotyledonous plants refractory in tissue culture, comprising isolating regenerable plant tissue and cultivating it in a standard tissue culture medium, introducing foreign DNA (I) and regenerating fertile transgenic plants, is new. (I) comprises a sequence that either improves usefulness of the plant or generates additional valuable products
