<p>This invention relates to the field of communication data switching. More particularly, this invention is a method and apparatus for switching signals that are received with predetermined data frame structures carrying a plurality of data collections including different numbers of collection bytes. This invention provides high efficiency and bandwidth with low switching time delay. With reference to Fig. 3, input interfaces (10A, 10B, 10C, 10N) convert a predetermined data frame structure into an internal format comprising a predetermined number of rows and columns. A time-space switch (40) switches the frame formatted data while storing a row of bytes in a data memory. Output interfaces (70A, 70B, 70C, 70N) convert the switched data to the same data frame format received at the input. This processing of the data frames is performed under the control of the control and processing subsection (90).</p> |
