An abdominal exercise device (10) includes a first (11) and second (12) fluid impermeable, opposed sheets that are sealed along an outline seal (31) to define a selectively inflatable chamber (13, 16, 19) therebetween. A first (33) and second (36) strap are each connected to one of the first (11) and second (12) sheets. A plurality of hand holds (37, 40, 43, 55, 58, 60) are formed along the first and second straps (33, 36) at predetermined varying distances from the chamber (13, 16, 19). To use this device (10), the chamber (13, 16, 19) is placed under the user's head in contact with the neck and upper back and supporting the same. One of the user's hands holds on the first strap. The first strap (33) and second strap (36) are pulled sufficiently to support the user's head, neck and upper back.
