Method for determining the middle longitudinal axis of a car or vehicle (1), as a reference axis for adjustment of the headlights. The shape of the car is determined using two cameras (4, 5) arranged above the front and rear of the vehicle. The recorded images are used by a computer to determine the central longitudinal plane of the car in conjunction with a data record in computer memory containing the shape of the car. The invention also relates to a device for determination of the central plane of a vehicle.
