Valve (1) for a drinking cup comprises a valve body (16) which closes either the inlet (10) or outlet (11) in the spout. It is biased towards the closed position by a spring (17) mounted above it. Independent claims are included for (a) a valve plate containing the valve, and (b) a lid for a drinking cup containing the valve.
