A sonic transducer (12) includes a transducer body (16) and a drive element (18) coupled to the transducer body (16) to produce a sonic output in response to an applied electrical input. A sense element (20) is coupled to the drive element (18) and is configured to provide an electrical feedback output related to the sonic output. The electrical feedback output is adapted to be used to control the applied electrical input to the drive element (18) so as to control the energy delivered to the working area or tip (102) of the transducer (12).
