When the combustion engine motor is at a standstill the valve whose spring force (18) is to be corrected is moved by the actuator (2) into the closing position and the other valves are moved by their actuators into the open position. The adjusting devices (20 to 22) of the valve spring bearings which are preferably secured against pressure compensation (as non-return valves) are then biased with a pressure which is below the pressure prevailing in the adjusting devices of the opened valve but above the pressure prevailing in the adjusting devices of the closed valve. The adjusting device is a ring piston (20) with associated non-return valve (22).
