The invention relates to a method and a device for controlling the drive nit of a vehicle. In a first step, input variables, which are independent of the drive unit, are used to form a first input variable. In a second step, a second input variable influencing at least one regulation variable of the drive unit is formed on the basis of said first input variable and at least one motor-specific input variable. The invention also describes an interface between the motor-independent and the motor-specific part of the motor control.
