PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent pattern shading due to stretched gravure dots and occurrence of disorder of a pattern even when it is a geometrical one causing conspicuous disorder, to save a transfer film and also to facilitate positioning of a workpiece to the pattern for transfer. SOLUTION: A transfer film (1) for decorating prepared by printing the pattern on a water-soluble film (4) is fixed temporarily on a slightly adhesive elastic base (2) and stuck, in this state, to the surface (3) to be decorated of the workpiece (W) with an adhesive. After the water-soluble film (4) is removed by washing in water, a transparent coating film (12) is so formed as to cover the pattern transferred onto the surface (3) to be decorated.
