PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To secure the safety of workers and the workability in the maintenance work of a double deck elevator, and to protect the electrical wiring between an upper and a lower cages from severance when adjusting a space between them, and to improve the car connecting part structure of a driving means of a story height adjusting mechanism for adjusting a space between the upper and the lower cages. SOLUTION: A movable pedestal 31 to be moved forward, backward, left and right in the horizontal direction and to be turned in the fore and aft direction and the left arid right direction is interposed in a connection part 30 for connecting a lower end of each driving shaft 22 of a driving means 21 and a cage 2. A work bench 50 having a wide space and high safety is fixed to an upper part of a car frame 1 for permanent facility. An electrical wiring for connecting the upper cage 2 and a lower cage 3 is protected by a deck-to- deck electrical wiring protecting device 60 formed of a flexible member 61 such as a cable bearer (registered trademark) and a guide support 62 thereof.
