PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a navigation system capable of realizing agreeable navigation by defragmenting a hard disk at a specified time to keep access speed high. SOLUTION: In this navigation system, when a defragment button is pressed (step S11; Yes), if an engine is not stopped (step S12; No) and navigation is not in operation (step S14; No), then the hard disk is immediately defragmented. If the navigation is in operation (step S14; Yes), it is checked whether or not a disk is mounted (step S15), and the mounting of a DVD-ROM stored with necessary map data is demanded (step S16). When it is ascertained that a relevant DVD-ROM has been mounted (step S18; Yes), defragmenting is executed (step S22). Files separately disposed in the hard disk 15 are thereby continuously disposed, thus enabling access speed to be kept high. |
