PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a production method of polyester which has an excellent color tone, few foreign matters in its polymer, and has an outstanding melt heat stability. SOLUTION: When a trimethylene glycol ester of an bifunctional aromatic carboxylic acid and/or its low polymerizate or tetramethylene glycol ester of the carboxylic acid and/or its low polymerizate is subjected to a polycondensation reaction in the presence of a catalyst to produce a polyester, a reaction product obtained from previous reaction between a specific titanium compound and a phosphorus compound is used as this catalyst at the molar rate of (1/1)-(3/1).
