PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a NCO-containing prepolymer having a small amount of monomer based on 1,4-diisocyanato-2,2,6-trimethylcyclohexane, and provide a production method and use thereof. SOLUTION: The prepolymer having a small amount of monomer based on 1,4-diisocyanato-2,2,6-trimethylcyclohexane(TMCDI) and a polyol can be obtained by a reaction of 1,4-diisocyanato-2,2,6-trimethylcyclohexane(TMCDI) and at least one kind of at least bifunctional polyol with NCO/OH ratio of 2-1.5;1, at 20-100 deg.C, in the presence of at least one kind of catalyst. The prepolymer contains a residual monomer less than 1.0% by mass.
