The invention relates to a plug and socket type buckle that requires two hands to release, primarily for use with a belt or strap. It is particular useful in applications requiring a higher than normal level of security. The buckle assembly (10) comprising a plug (20) and a socket (30). The plug (20) has a base (25), a pair of parallel side arms (21, 22) and a centre arm (23). The centre arm (23) has a push button (40) and a catch (41). Each side of the socket (30) has an aperture (33, 34) for receiving an end (26, 27) of one of the side arms (21, 22). The top surface of the socket (30) has spaces (35, 36) to allow the push button (40) and the catch (41) to protrude through when the plug (20) is inserted into the socket (30). The buckle assembly (10) can only be disengaged by simultaneously pressing the push button (40) downward and the side arms (21, 22) inward until the catch (41) and the ends (26, 27) of the side arms (21, 22) clear the apertures (36, 33, 34) in the socket (30). |
