PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a glow plug and a production method for the same in which the strength of a ceramic heater can be improved and the excessive consumption of electric power can be suppressed. SOLUTION: The glow plug P1 comprises a metallic outer tube 1, a tubular main fitting 2 for holding the metallic outer tube 1, a terminal electorde 3 insulated from and fitted to the tubular main fitting 2, a ceramic heater 4 inserted into the metallic outer tube 1 and having a U-shaped ceramic heat generating member 42 provided therein and a holding layer 10 provided between the ceramic heater 4 and the metallic outer tube 1. In the metallic outer tube 1, a conductive layer 5 is formed of an Au-Ni-Ti brazing filler material with a diameter of 3 mm and the thickness of 10μm so as to cover the surface of one end 42A of the ceramic heat generating member 42 exposed on the side surface of a ceramic base 41 therewith.
