PURPOSE: A gene encoding a recombinant human ciliary neurotrophic factor(CNTF) and expression thereof in yeast are provided, thereby mass-producing human ciliary neurotrophic factor(CNTF) protein. CONSTITUTION: A gene encoding a recombinant human ciliary neurotrophic factor(CNTF) is connected to the 3'-terminal of an ubiquitin gene as one open reading frame, to prepare a recombinant gene. An expression vector pYLBC-A/G-UB-CNTF contains the recombinant gene. A transformant yeast, Saccharomyces cerevisiae DCO4-UB-CNTF, pYLBC-A/G-UB-CNTF(ATCC 74258) is prepared by transformation with the expression vector pYLBC-A/G-UB-CNTF. The human ciliary neurotrophic factor(CNTF) protein is produced by culturing the transformant yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae DCO4-UB-CNTF, pYLBC-A/G-UB-CNTF(ATCC 74258).
