PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new curable resin composition excellent in curability and capable of forming coating films excellent in acid resistance, scratch resistance and other coating film performances, to provide a paint composition containing the above resin composition, and to provide a method for forming topcoating films. SOLUTION: This resin composition is characterized by comprising (a) a vinyl-based resin having an epoxy group, a hydroxyl group and an alkoxysilyl group in one molecule and (b) a vinyl-based copolymer having a 3- carboxypropionyloxy group and an acid anhydride group in one molecule. The paint composition is obtained by including the resin composition. The method for forming a topcoating film comprises using the above-mentioned paint composition as the coating to form a multilayer topcoating film by sequentially forming a colored base coat and/or a clear topcoat on an object to be coated.
