摘要 Two matrix components (2, 3) are liquefied and wet the fiber filaments (1) of the fibrous component. When liquid, one component is not soluble in the other. During consolidation of the composite material, one of the previously-liquefied matrix components (3) is hardened irreversibly to a duroplastic. The other remains capable of being melted. Preferred features: The fibrous component is in the form of a continuous reinforcing strand of fibrous filaments. Matrix components are bonded to it by pressure impregnation. One matrix component (2) is a thermoplastic. The matrix contains 3%-30% duroplastic. One matrix component may be a metallic alloy. During manufacture and a later deformation, this component can be melted. Three matrix components are included. The first (2) is a thermoplastic, the second a duroplastic and the third is a metal or other inorganic material. The fibrous component (1) is in the form of a woven or braided material. The composite is semi-flexible. The fibrous strands extending in a given direction include a relatively small proportion of the matrix components (2, 3). The proportion is sufficiently small that the composite material at ambient temperature is relatively flexible in the given direction.
