PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal device of a semitransmission reflection method, having high display quality and a bright image. SOLUTION: The liquid crystal device 1 has a color filter layer 14 and a semitransmission reflection layer 15 formed on a color filter substrate 16, and has a backlight 10 disposed outside of the substrate. Scanning lines 4 are formed above the semitransmission reflection layer 15 on the color filter substrate 16, and pixel electrodes 11r, 11g, 11b are formed on the device substrate 12. The liquid crystal is driven by the scanning lines 4 and the pixel electrodes 11r, 11g, 11b. Windows for transmitting the emitted light from the backlight 10 are formed in the semitransmission reflection layer 15, corresponding to the respective pixels. A plurality of windows 17 are arranged, for example, in a staggered state, so that the edges of the windows 17 over a plurality of pixels are not arranged on a straight line. |
