PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To execute highly accurate measurement by removing a generated unnecessary particle signal caused by an optical system. SOLUTION: This flow cytometer is equipped with a sheath flow cell, a photoelectric conversion part for detecting optically each characteristic of particles flowing in a line in the sheath flow cell and outputting the characteristics sequentially as particle signals, a detection part for detecting a space of adjacent peaks between the signals relative to continuous two particle signals and a ratio of the maximum peak values between one signal and the other signal, when the particle signal has a pulse waveform having one or more peaks, a housing part for housing beforehand a prescribed space and a prescribed ratio, a determination part for comparing the space and the ratio detected by the detection part with the prescribed space and the prescribed ratio respectively and determining necessity of the particle signals, an operation part for operating characteristic parameters of the particles, and an output part for outputting the operation result based on the determination result.
